ABOUT OUR PARTNERSHIP
This group of artisans from Pakistan is equipping women out of extreme poverty by teaching them to read, write, and training them to sew. Mushtaq and Kanwel lead this group of Christian artisans in Pakistan. Within a year, these women are able to earn a steady income and support their families. They are no longer bound to employment where abuse and poverty are the cultural norm. Their newfound skills empower them toward financial stability, transforming their self-esteem and forging a hope for their families’ future.
THE ARTISANS: KANWEL
Kanwel and her husband Mushtaq began working with women in the slums of Pakistan in 2005, sharing love, light and hope in a community where persecution and oppression are so tangible. In some areas, trash is dumped in the slums and set it to burn. The stench reminds those in their community how deeply undervalued they are in society, as it creates sickness within their bodies. Beyond that, their lack of financial stability is compounded by abuse, crime, bond slavery, and additional burdens to bear every day.
Over 400 women have been successfully trained since Kanwel started working with these women, and Trades of Hope is excited to be partnering with some of these women for our product. But we want to be able to partner with more and Kanwel has dreams for hundreds of women to have employment!
